Focused on the Doc.
This week has been dedicated to as in the previous post, ‘getting better’. I’ve spent almost every night after coming home from work on the neck angle jig. With quite a bit of research (basically watching Youtube videos) of what other people have done, I’ve taken elements of what I think are best practices and combined them with my own. I think I’ve taken control of my vulnerability as a luthier. This week we filmed another set of interviews for the doc. We have captured s

Not alone.
We had a shoot last night. We needed to complete some overdue interviews for the documentary. It’s also a good time to get together with the crew and get on the same page. I think I scared the crew lol. During my on camera interview I was asked about what my plans were for the performance. I’m not sure why, but I thought most of the team had an idea of what my plans were based on my blog posts and even the Facebook live concert. Although the concert will be Classical Gui

Get better to be the best.
Someone once told me that guitar making is a craft of making jigs, jigs, and when you think you have them all, you make another. At first, I wasn’t comfortable with this idea. I just wanted to make one guitar. Now that I’ve made a hand full of stringed instruments, and now exploring a world where I make many in a year, I finally understand the jig making business. It’s about repeatability. High quality over and over again. I thought about buying a CNC machine – for those o

Relaxed Concentration.
I have 5 months left… That might seem like a lot of time to people in terms of preparing for a concert but based on the learning gap and expectations I have on myself, I’m really starting to freak out. My guitar will be ready in December, and I want nothing more than to be able to play something BEAUTIFUL on it and have my pieces ready by then. That will give me another month or so to refine, and really focus on making the show itself memorable and unique. I’m glad to have

Finding my balance.
It’s been too long. I’ve thrown in some half ass blogs since I’ve been away. From Colombia to Beijing and back, its been crazy. In fact, as I write this, I’m counting eight times where I’ve left Canada in just this year alone. The opportunities, the ideas, the sights I’ve seen have been nothing but awesome. Although, I did hit a low point in the last month when my day job took over my life. A ridiculous amount of deliverables needed to be generated in an impossible timefr

Almost Done.
I’m in my Hotel room in Beijing – I can’t sleep. So here I am sharing a short note. I like the short blog combined with a vlog idea. So I haggled and bought a very handy gimble for updates, sharing ideas/thoughts as they come up - with you. I need to get comfortable seeing and hearing myself on camera. It needs to happen. All the millennials are doing it! A few more days in Beijing with my fellow work mates and then back in Calgary. I’m getting anxious to get back on this

Frustrated.
My split second thoughts in blog format this week. Early in the week: What did I expect? I have more work than I ever imagined and it all needed to be done yesterday. How can I turn this into an opportunity? I’ll find a way. Mid-week: First and last time I will ever sleep at work. They should at least provide a couch. My priorities are really messed up. End of week: Off to Beijing today and my focus is still work. I’m tired, worn out, and can’t wait until to get back into
